Our picking up courses have been designed in conjunction with local shoots to offer you the best possible training scenarios.
These days are to show you the requirements of a picker up and what is expected of you and your dogs throughout the day.
First Day - Consists of a refresher session in basic steadiness and control on and off the lead as well as retreiving using cold game. Followed by lunch on site. After lunch we will incorporate the earlier steadiness using rabbit pens and live shoot scenarios. We shall then recreate a drive for you and your dogs. The day shall finish with a discussion of the day as well as a safety and etiquette briefing for the following day.
Second Day - After a pre-shoot briefing and introduction to the guns we shall move off to the first drive, dogs will be given retrieves once they have shown complete steadiness, and retrieves shall be tailored to the dogs in question. Our instructors will be on hand throughout the day answering questions and offering advice. The day will end with a breakdown of the two days and a Q&A session.
NEW PICKING UP COURSES:

The venue will be the Oxford Gun Company – Jericho Farm, Oakley, Bucks.
It will be a 2 day course:
Day One
Will consist of steadiness and control work, Direction, Steadiness to shot,
distractions whilst retrieving as well as working in company of like minded
handlers – Lunch at the venue is included along with Tea & Coffee throughout
the day (we’ll even throw in some water for the dogs!)
Day Two
The first ½ hour shall be spent on the etiquette and safety aspect of
picking up, dress code, equipment required and a brief Q&A session.
Again lunch, Tea and Coffee will be provided at the venue.
This will elaborate on the first day, and include live shooting scenarios,
with driven targets, bolting rabbits etc. Their will be background
shooting, enabling the dogs to become accustomed to regular shooting, whilst
remaining steady.
The courses are limited to six handlers per course, in order for you to get
the most out of the day. It is advised to work only one dog for the course,
although if you wished to work more than one, we would be happy to discuss
this on an individual basis.
